Happy Helpers Distribution

On this day, we distribute all the food, clothes, and love we have to the homeless, in person. We meet at the 7-Eleven, located at: 7701 Quarterfield Road, Glen Burnie, MD 21061 around 12:45pm then head to the distibution center. HCAS Annual Potluck Picnic

Join the fun! Help with set-up, clean-up and children's games at the Autism Society's annual potluck picnic. Picnic hours are 4:00-7:00pm. Volunteers will need to be onsite from 3:15 - 7:30pm. Elementary and Secondary Field Trip Hike Leaders

Volunteers are needed at The Howard County Conservancy for the 2019 Fall / 2020 Spring field trip season. Elementary Volunteer field trip hike leaders take small groups of students with chaperones on a guided hike with activities on the grounds of the Conservancy. Secondary Volunteer field trip hike leaders assist with various activities including macroinvertebrate sampling and water testing. We are holding training sessions in September and encourage volunteers to attend at least one training session. However, they are not mandatory. Doors open at 9am for coffee and conversation. The sessions will begin at 9:30am. Please contact the Conservancy directly, if you would like to volunteer but cannot attend a session. Community Dinner (Hosts, Servers & Clean-up)

Come join the "Make a Memory that Matters" movement by helping feed the marginalized citizens of Maryland a meal. Volunteers are needed to help serve food, work in the dish room and maintain the dining room. Volunteers are asked to arrive at 5pm, no later than 5:15pm, to help serve from 5-7pm, and wrap up from 7-7:15pm. Each dinner (weekly on Tuesday & Wednesday) has 15 available volunteer slots. The age requirement to serve food is 16 years old; 14 years old to help in the other areas.

Conservation Stewardship Project

The Conservation Stewardship Project, a joint program of the Howard County Master Gardeners and the Howard County Recreation & Parks, targets the problem of controlling invasive exotic plant species in the Middle Patuxent Environmental Area (MPEA). Volunteer work dates occur monthly from March through November, skipping July and August. Each date includes an educational component concerning the target invasive species or work area for the day. Hyattsville Community Cleanup

Description: Volunteers will help the Anacostia Watershed Society and Prince George's County Young Democrats with a community cleanup south of Ager Road and James Town Road in Hyattsville, Maryland! By participating in this event, volunteers will help us to cleanup the community and prevent trash from going into the Anacostia River. BikeAbout Traffic Volunteer

Volunteers are needed for Columbia Association’s (CA) annual Columbia BikeAbout, a free event being held this year on Saturday, September 28, 2019 organized by CA and Columbia Archives. Volunteers will assist with traffic control and directions, and they will act as guides along the 6-mile route. Flexible shifts are available between 9 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Training — and a free T-shirt — will be provided for those volunteering to help. Traffic volunteers will be stationed along our 6-mile route throughout the pathway system. Traffic assistance consists of asking bike riders to stop and wait for car traffic to pass. Please do not stop traffic. Knowledge of pathways in the Village of Long Reach or the ability to identify locations using pathway map is a plus. BikeAbout Registration Volunteer

We collect bikes from the public, refurbish them over a ten week period, and then give them away before the holidays. We will be conducting a bicycle collection drive on October 5 at about a dozen sites all over Howard County. We'll then bring the bikes to 10750 Little Patuxent Parkway where we will refurbish them, We need volunteers to staff those collection points: Greet donors, accept bicycles, give out receipts, and thank donors for their contribution. 13th Annual One Step Closer Walk/5K Run - Post-Event Clean-up

Join the fun! Clean up the registration/refreshment/exhibitor areas, fold up tables/chairs, load equipment/supplies, and collect trash after the Walk/5K Run. Lifting required. This annual event hosts over 600 participants and benefits individuals with autism and their families in Howard County. Thank you for your interest and support! 1920's Host

HoCoPoLitSo and Howard Community College's Arts Collective partner to create a transcendent evening of music, poetry, and visual art from the 1920’s Harlem Renaissance. Artists such as Langston Hughes, Georgia Douglas Johnson, and Duke Ellington will explore the power of words and music in an atmosphere evocative of a prohibition speakeasy. Celebrate HoCoPoLitSo’s 45th anniversary with this unique historical exploration of the art that transformed our world. Hosts will provide customer service to both event guests and artists. Savage 7K Run Course Marshal

On Sunday, October 6, the community of Savage, MD is hosting the annual Savage 7K Run/1 Mile Historic Walk. Funds raised from the race go to support renovations at the historic Carroll Baldwin Hall, a 97-year-old landmark that is still the heart of the community. Monies raised in 2019 will go primarily towards replacement of the Hall's well-worn original wooden floors. Please see our FB Event for details and information about the run /walk. Indian Cultural Association is hosting a health fair on Sunday, October 6, 2019. We need the help of volunteers throughout the day from 8:00a.m. - 6:00p.m. to make this a success. Radio/Dial-in News Readers

Radio/Dial-in readers needed every day to read The Washington Post, USA Today, Time and Washingtonian magazines and other current local and national publications. In addition, volunteers read grocery and shopping ads, magazines, TV listings and audio described theater listings. Minimum 2 hour a week commitment. Grounds Help

Brooke Grove’s landscape includes a large number of gardens and extensive grounds. Assistance is needed to help weed garden areas and pick up trash and debris on the grounds, walkways and roadways. Activities Assistant

This position is perfect for students! You'll be helping our Life Enrichment team in the nursing center or one of 7 different assisted living houses with activities for residents ranging from playing games to doing crafts, making jewelry, leading (minimal) exercise sessions, going on walks, gathering together for musical performances, readings and more. These activities typically take place from 10am - noon and from 12noon - 2pm, seven days a week. If you want to do volunteer for both times, we can train you to be a dining & hospitality aide so that you can fill the time from 12noon - 2pm, thereby putting in 6 hours in one day - a quick way to earn SSL hours!

Onsite Salon Transport

Volunteers are needed to help transport residents from their rooms to in-house salons in the nursing center, rehab center, and assisted living houses. Days are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and there are morning and afternoon shifts: 10am – 1pm and 1pm -4pm. Requires being on your feet most of the time and the ability to push a wheelchair. Outings Assistant

Brooke Grove's Assisted Living staff frequently take residents on outings, and need assistance helping them to get on and off the bus as well as accompanying them to lunch, on a shopping trip, or on a field trip to a baseball game or bowling, for example. Volunteers are scheduled for outings as needed; they take place on any given weekday, typically between the hours of 10am - 12:30pm, 11am - 1:30pm, or 10am - 4pm.

Music or Entertainment

Volunteers are needed who play piano, guitar or other instruments, can sing or lead sing-alongs, lead hymn-sings on Sundays, or provide some type of entertainment for resident groups. Small groups may be accepted depending on where the entertainment would be scheduled on campus. Culinary Runner

What is a culinary runner, you ask? A volunteer who takes rejected meals back to the kitchen and gets a replacement meal to deliver to a dining room. This volunteer position is a huge help to the kitchen and nursing staff, who can’t stop what they’re doing to pick-up and deliver these special requests. This volunteer role is available during the breakfast, lunch and dinner hours - 7:15 - 10:15am; 12noon - 2:45pm; and 5:00 - 7:30pm, seven days a week.

Brooke Groves' Admissions offices needs occasional volunteer assistance interpreting for deaf individuals.This is an on-call volunteer position interpreting during the admissions process to our rehabilitation facility and nursing center.

Project Linus "Blanketeers" provide warmth, comfort and a sense of security to area children who are seriously ill, traumatized or in need through the donation of new, handcrafted blankets that they create. Success in Style operates 4 upscale resale boutiques to support our mission, all located in Historic Savage Mill. We are always in need of friendly, energetic volunteers who love people, clothes and retail!
