A county-wide Day of Service to honor Dr. King's life and legacy will take place as part of the Howard County Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Commission's annual celebration in partnership with the Volunteer Center Serving Howard County and community organizations across Howard County. Glen Mar Church

2019 Day of Service

A range of family-friendly service opportunities for ages 5 to 105 from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM at Glen Mar Church. The activities help with food security, community development, public health, and support the morale of service members. There will be 18 on-site and a couple of off-site activities. Free child care is available from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Partnership and corporate sponsorship opportunities are still available. So, come for one hour or come for the day. More info

Volunteering Made Easy

Volunteering Made Easy Audience: Community members interested in learning how to identify and participate in volunteer opportunities that meet their schedule and interests. Cost: Free, but registration is required Discover how to connect with local and regional organizations that are recruiting volunteers for general opportunities as well as skilled project specialists. If you've wondered if volunteering was right for you or if you always wanted to volunteer but weren't quite sure how to begin, this one-hour session is for you. Happy Helpers Preparation

On this day, we gather at the 7-Eleven and travel to the Happy Helpers Headquarters, where we prepare sandwiches and goodies for the homeless. You can meet at Happy Helpers headquarters located at 1550 Catons Center Drive Halethorpe, MD 21227 at 11:30am. Note: To signup a volunteer that does not meet the minimum age only the minimum age with adult age, parents/adults need to create a team which includes themselves and the volunteer(s) that are under age. Happy Helpers Distribution

On this day, we distribute all the food, clothes, and love we have to the homeless, in person. We meet at the 7-Eleven, located at: 7701 Quarterfield Road, Glen Burnie, MD 21061 around 12:45pm. Additionally, the distribution center is located at Our Daily Bread: 725 Fallsway, Baltimore, MD 21202. You can meet here at 1:30pm. Parents/adults signing up with children

Groups

Groups interested in volunteering for an opportunity should create a Volunteer Team. One person will be the Team Leader and register as a volunteer on this site then create a team. Can’t volunteer on January 21st? Volunteers are needed throughout the year. In the spirit of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service, we encourage you to volunteer with our partner organizations at another time.
