Acts of Kindness

Volunteering is helping others. One way to make a difference in your community even as a youth is through Acts of Kindness.

Here are some ideas that can be done by all ages.

  1. Hold the door open for someone.

  2. Do a chore for someone.

  3. Collect recycling

  4. Ask if you can help someone.

  5. Call your grandparents to say "Hi".

  6. Pick up trash you see.

  7. Let someone go ahead of you in line.

  8. Compliment someone.

  9. Check in on a neighbor.

  10. Send a card to a service member. USO, Wounded Warrior Project

  11. Tell someone they are special to you.

  12. Donate outgrown clothes.

  13. Turn off lights you're not using.

  14. Talk to someone new at school or in your neighborhood.

  15. Donate food to a food pantry.

  16. Tell a server how good your service was.

  17. Donate new socks and supplies to the homeless shelter. Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center

  18. Contact a friend you haven’t seen in a while to say hello.

  19. Read a book to someone.

  20. Forgive someone or say you are sorry.

  21. Say hello to one new person

  22. Make your siblings bed.

  23. Clean up after yourself.

  24. Sing songs to another.

  25. Tell the principal how great your teacher is.

  26. Turn off the water while brushing your teeth.

  27. Make a thank you card for your parents.

  28. Set the table.

  29. Help make dinner.

  30. Make a get well card for someone.

  31. Share a special toy with a friend.

  32. Clean up your room without being asked.

  33. Give spare change to a food pantry. Howard County Food Bank (Howard County Community Action Council)

  34. Teach someone something new.

  35. Reuse paper when you are drawing.

  36. Give someone a hug coupon.

  37. Write a note for someone’s lunch.

  38. Write a poem for a friend.

  39. Make a homemade gift for someone.

  40. Clean up your toys without being asked.

  41. Give high fives to a friend.

  42. Send a postcard to a friend or relative.

  43. Smile at everybody. It’s contagious.

  44. Pick up something for someone.

  45. Tell someone to have a nice day.

  46. Stop negative comments by changing the subject when someone starts talking in a negative, bad way.

  47. Play "10 Good Things." Say ten good things about someone.

  48. Smile At Five Strangers.

  49. Introduce your friend to someone new.

  50. Share a book with someone.
