JA Rising Women Mentor

JA Rising Women is a unique after-school opportunity for female high school students (grades 9-12) who are interested in exploring their entrepreneurial potential. With the help of businesswomen who serve as mentors, the JA Rising Women team will conceptualize an idea for a product or service, capitalize venture, market product offerings, and reap the profits! JA Rising Women requires a certain level of commitment from the student. This program provides a great experience, and relies on the effort of the students involved to make it successful. You can make an impact and mentor high school students as they launch their businesses! As a volunteer with Junior Achievement of Central Maryland, you will work with students apart of the Rising Women program and coach students through the creation, marketing, and production and sale of product or service that they create. We provide the students with the curriculum and you bring the real-world experience. The program runs for 13 weeks and is perfect for a volunteer who understands the process of turning an idea into a business and is passionate about students achieving the same! At the end of the in-class coaching students will have the chance to compete in our annual Junior Achievement Student Competition where they will present their business pitch to professional judges and showcase their product or service. Volunteers are needed Wednesday evenings from 5-7PM.

Young Defender's Day at Fort McHenry

Help us celebrate Young Defender's Day at Fort McHenry on April 26th! Young Defenders Day is an exciting take on our annual Young Defenders’ Day educational program at Fort McHenry which enables students to experience Fort McHenry as it was at the time of the War of 1812. Now, Young Defenders: National Park Week Field Day introduces students to Fort McHenry, its role in the War of 1812, AND to the National Park System. The day provides hands-on learning stations provided by the National Park Service, Pride of Baltimore II, Chesapeake Bay Foundation, and more. As the soldiers at Fort McHenry during the War of 1812 defended Baltimore, students gain the knowledge and skills to become Defenders of our parks! We need volunteers to help with crowd control and engaging with our students. Please join us for this fun and educational event!
