Muscle Needed in Support of LakeFest 2019

Columbia Festival of the Arts is preparing for LakeFest 2019, which will occur 14-16 June. Our biggest need is for physically fit, responsible individuals to assist in unloading/loading and carrying artists’ creations and supplies to their booths at the Columbia lakefront each day of the festival. Each day will be divided into three times, each lasting approximately four hours between 9:30 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. For additional information on the Festival and volunteering, please see the Columbia Festival of the Arts website. You may also consider attending our Volunteer Recruitment Event on 28 March from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at Slayton House in Columbia. Sign up for one shift or multiple shifts; one day or multiple days; as an individual or a team. Two separate mandatory training times will be provided in late May/early June. If you express interest via Volunteer Howard County’s website, you do not need to sign up on the Columbia Festival of the Arts website. You will be contacted with additional instructions for how to sign up for specific teams and training. For more specific information, please contact susan@columbiafestival.com. Lovers of LakeFest and the Arts

Have you ever wondered what it takes to bring all that amazing art and spectacular performances to the Lakefront at no cost to Festival attendees? Teams are needed to: provide assistance and food to performers backstage provide breaks for artists in booths sell performer and festival merchandise assist with loading/unloading/transporting artwork and supplies to artists' booths man the information booth provide office support, and assist in ensuring the Festival's environmental control efforts are effective. Happy Helpers Distribution

On this day, we distribute all the food, clothes, and love we have to the homeless, in person. We meet at the 7-Eleven, located at: 7701 Quarterfield Road, Glen Burnie, MD 21061 around 12:45pm. Additionally, the distribution center is located at Our Daily Bread: 725 Fallsway, Baltimore, MD 21202. You can meet here at 1:30pm. Give Seniors a Lift - Volunteer Orientation

Learn more about how you can make a difference in the lives of local seniors by providing rides for medical appointments, shopping, social outings and other needs. No set schedule is required. Simply provide the rides that are convenient to your home, office, and daily routines. Partner Staff Orientation

Are you or your organization new to the Volunteer Center or do you want to learn about the new updated HandsOn Connect system? Community Dinner (Hosts, Servers & Clean-up)

Come join the "Make a Memory that Matters" movement by helping feed the marginalized citizens of Maryland a meal. Volunteers are needed to help serve food, work in the dish room and maintain the dining room. Volunteers are asked to arrive at 5pm, no later than 5:15pm, to help serve from 5-7pm, and wrap up from 7-7:15pm. Each dinner (weekly on Tuesday & Wednesday) has 15 available volunteer slots. The age requirement to serve food is 16 years old; 14 years old to help in the other areas.

Dissemination of Program Flyers & Summer Promotional Package

We are looking for volunteers who will disseminate flyers within the Laurel Vicinity. Designated places include Apartment Complex, African Stores, Parking lots, Strip Malls, Churches, Laurel Town Center, Columbia mall, all neighboring Community Centers (i.e Russett Community, North Laurel Community Center ) and so on. Volunteers will have the opportunity to talk to folks about our exciting programs. Conservation Stewardship Project

The Conservation Stewardship Project, a joint program of the Howard County Master Gardeners and the Howard County Recreation & Parks, targets the problem of controlling invasive exotic plant species in the Middle Patuxent Environmental Area (MPEA). Volunteer work dates occur monthly from March through November, skipping July and August. Each date includes an educational component concerning the target invasive species or work area for the day. International STEM Game Night

Robotics teams from around the world will be in Howard County participating in the Maryland Tech Invitational during the last weekend in June. As part of this event, the USRA STEMaction Center is hosting a team social for these groups to socialize and participate in STEM Challenges and games. We are looking for volunteers to help with the following: Food Line, 1.5 hours: 2 people needed to monitor distribution of food Game Attendants, 2.5 hours: 7 needed to man board/video games and facilitate activities for middle and high school students. DJ/emcee, 2.5 hours: 1 person needed to operate sound system and make announcements, all equipment provided. Meals and specific instructions will be provided for all volunteers.

Summer Pool Party

Help set up, check in participants, serve a pizza dinner, and clean up at our annual pool party at Lifetime Fitness. Spanish speakers are needed. Plant Nursery Workday at the Bostwick House

Note: This event is weather dependent Date: Saturday, July 13, 2019 Time: 10:00 am - 1:00 pm Meeting Location: We will be meeting on location at the historic Bostwick House. It is located at 3901 48th St. in Bladensburg, MD 20710. You can access it from Annapolis Rd, Kenilworth Ave, and Quincy St. There is a fence around the property with one, large gate that will be open. Enter the property at this gate and proceed up the driveway up the hill. Please pull up the driveway as far as you can so others can fit behind you. Click here for a map of the location. Description: Join staff from the Anacostia Watershed Society at our plant nursery site, the Bostwick House. You will be helping with nursery maintenance and/or plant propagation. This work could involve walking on uneven surfaces, bending, and lifting. You will also have the opportunity to learn from staff about this historic site. We will provide all necessary tools and training for this event. Physical Requirements: This event will likely involve digging, lifting, and bending. Participants will be expected to wear closed-toed shoes for the duration of the event. 2019 SUMMER CAMP VOLUNTEERS WANTED

Camp Inclusion is a summer day camp in Howard County designed for students with and without special needs ages 12-21. Every summer, we recruit high school and college aged students looking for volunteer hours & experiences to serve as our camp volunteers. Volunteers must be between the ages of 16 and 21 and experience working with children is preferred but not required. Individuals under 16 are encouraged to register for the program as a Peer Camper. Camp operates the weeks of July 22-26, July 29- Aug 2, Aug 5-9, and Aug 12-16. We require that volunteers dedicate at least 5 days during this time to be considered for a volunteer position, preferably five consecutive days in a given week. To Express Interest in volunteering for a session(s), click on one of the dates below in the session(s) of your choice and Express Interest. The system will pull in all days for that session. Application deadline July 19, 2019. Volunteer training will be held on Friday, July 20th. After expressing interest, please fill out the application at the link below.
