Healthy Eating Event Volunteers

Volunteers are needed to assist with our Healthy Eating Series event. Set Up Volunteers: Assist caterer with transport of items for preparation from cars to pavilion. Help set up pavilion with portable tables, chairs, etc. (Requires lifting, bending) Time: 5-7:00pm Parking Volunteers: Direct traffic/parking, keep traffic flowing in correct direction, keep designated area available for handicap parking. Put up signs and cones. Time: 6-7:30pm Clean Up Volunteers: Do what's necessary to return pavilion to original state. Time: 8:15-9:30pm Other: Dress for weather, event will be held rain or shine in covered pavilion Event Overview: Healthy Eating Series: Preparing Tasty Vegetables. Vegetables don’t have to be bland. Local chefs will show you how to use herbs and spices to add flavor to summer vegetables. Dr. Jyothi Rao from Shakthi Health & Wellness Center will provide insight into why eating vegetables are essential to good health. Delicious sampling and recipes included. Elementary and Secondary Field Trip Hike Leaders

Volunteers are needed at The Howard County Conservancy for the 2019 Fall / 2020 Spring field trip season. Elementary Volunteer field trip hike leaders take small groups of students with chaperones on a guided hike with activities on the grounds of the Conservancy. Secondary Volunteer field trip hike leaders assist with various activities including macroinvertebrate sampling and water testing. We are holding training sessions in September and encourage volunteers to attend at least one training session. However, they are not mandatory. Doors open at 9am for coffee and conversation. The sessions will begin at 9:30am. Please contact the Conservancy directly, if you would like to volunteer but cannot attend a session. Community Dinner (Hosts, Servers & Clean-up)

Come join the "Make a Memory that Matters" movement by helping feed the marginalized citizens of Maryland a meal. Volunteers are needed to help serve food, work in the dish room and maintain the dining room. Volunteers are asked to arrive at 5pm, no later than 5:15pm, to help serve from 5-7pm, and wrap up from 7-7:15pm. Each dinner (weekly on Tuesday & Wednesday) has 15 available volunteer slots. Plant Nursery Workday at the Bostwick House

It is located at 3901 48th St. in Bladensburg, MD 20710. You can access it from Annapolis Rd, Kenilworth Ave, and Quincy St. There is a fence around the property with one, large gate that will be open. Enter the property at this gate and proceed up the driveway up the hill. Please pull up the driveway as far as you can so others can fit behind you. Click here for a map of the location. Description: Join staff from the Anacostia Watershed Society at our plant nursery site, the Bostwick House. You will be helping with nursery maintenance and/or plant propagation. This work could involve walking on uneven surfaces, bending, and lifting. You will also have the opportunity to learn from staff about this historic site. Conservation Stewardship Project

The Conservation Stewardship Project, a joint program of the Howard County Master Gardeners and the Howard County Recreation & Parks, targets the problem of controlling invasive exotic plant species in the Middle Patuxent Environmental Area (MPEA). Volunteer work dates occur monthly from March through November, skipping July and August. Each date includes an educational component concerning the target invasive species or work area for the day. BikeAbout Traffic Volunteer

Volunteers are needed for Columbia Association’s (CA) annual Columbia BikeAbout, a free event being held this year on Saturday, September 29, 2019 organized by CA and Columbia Archives. Volunteers will assist with traffic control and directions, and they will act as guides along the 6-mile route. Flexible shifts are available between 9 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Training — and a free T-shirt — will be provided for those volunteering to help. Traffic volunteers will be stationed along our 6-mile route throughout the pathway system. Traffic assistance consists of asking bike riders to stop and wait for car traffic to pass. Please do not stop traffic. Knowledge of pathways in the Village of Long Reach or the ability to identify locations using pathway map is a plus.
