Volunteer Management Resources

The Volunteer Center Serving Howard County supports local non-profit and governmental agencies through
:
-Connecting volunteers with the needs of local agencies

-Promoting best practices in volunteer management
-Communicating opportunities for professional training and workshops related to volunteer management
-Encouraging volunteer recognition
-Consulting with agencies interested in creating new volunteer programs or enhancing existing programs
-Providing materials and trainings to continue the necessary task of emergency preparedness planning in local agencies

Volunteer Recognition

The Casey Willis Making a Difference Award
The award recognizes a program or project that was operational sometime during the previous twelve months. It may be an ongoing program of the organization or a new project that the organization undertook. The program or project must have a direct impact on a resident or residents of Howard County and have made some sort of quantifiable difference. Any organization in Howard County with a 501(c)(3) IRS designation involved in human services, the cultural arts or civic affairs is eligible to apply for the annual award. Either the Executive Director or the President of the Board of Trustees of the organization must complete the application and submit it to The Columbia Foundation by the second Friday in September. Governor's Day at the State Fair
Complimentary Entry Passes for Volunteer Groups In appreciation of the tireless efforts and numerous contributions made by volunteer, community, and faith-based organizations each year, all Marylanders involved in volunteer service are invited to share a day of fun at the Maryland State Fair. Complimentary entry passes are available that include ride and food discounts for the day. The Governor's Day at the Fair - Sunday, August 24, 9:00 am to 11:00 pm - will take place at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium. Do you know a young hero who should be profiled in the National Service Briefing?
Nominate a young person between the ages of 5-25, who you think deserves to be profiled as a young hero. To submit a Young Heroes nomination, please send the name, age, city, and state of the young person you are nominating, as well as a brief description of their involvement in service to change their community. Self-nominations are accepted. Send nominations to nsbinfo@ysa.org with the subject line NOMINATION.
